On June 15, 2023, the X All-Ukrainian Workshop on the testing and implementation of the course “Culture of Good Neighborhood” was opened. The event was organized by the Information and Research Center “Integration and Development” in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine within the framework of the project “Piloting the teaching of the subject “Culture of Good Neighborhood” in the New Ukrainian School and ensuring the sustainability of its implementation”.
The opening meeting was attended by more than 150 participants from different regions of Ukraine. Among them were representatives of executive authorities, education authorities, NGOs, teachers of pre-school and general secondary education institutions, teachers and methodologists of postgraduate pedagogical and higher education institutions, regional coordinators and developers of the educational and methodological complex of the cross-cutting integrated course “Culture of Good Neighborhood”.
The participants were greeted by invited guests, including Yuriy Kononenko, Head of the General Secondary and Preschool Education Department of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, and Svitlana Suprun, Civic Education Specialist of the USAID/ENGAGE activity. In particular, Yuriy Kononenko noted that the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has always supported and will continue to support the development of the course, as it is very important for the development of young Ukrainians.
A number of speakers also made presentations: Viktor Kovrey, Head of the Department for Cooperation with Ethnic Communities of the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnic Policy and Freedom of Conscience, presented the Concept of the State Targeted National and Cultural Program “Unity in Diversity” for the period up to 2034 developed by the State Service; Margarita Aradzhioni, Project Manager of the Integration and Development Margarita Arajioni presented slides on the activities of testing and implementing the cross-cutting integrated course “Culture of Good Neighborhood” in 2022-2023; PhD in Psychology Nelya Lebid spoke about the main results of piloting and implementing “Culture of Good Neighborhood” as a compulsory elective subject in grades 5-6 of the NUS during 2021-2023. The 10th working meeting will last until June 17 inclusive. During the meeting, participants will be able to attend a number of workshops, discussions, roundtables and presentations with useful information for educators who are piloting or planning to teach “Culture of Good Neighborhood” in their institutions.
The Culture of Good Neighborhood course is a tool for building social competence, developing civic, intercultural, and peacebuilding education in Ukraine. The course is currently being implemented in all regions of the country.
